Selected Schneider Electric product families
Modicon M580
- Role
- Modicon M580 is Schneider Electric's Ethernet-enabled programmable automation controller family for process, high-availability and safety architectures.
- Typical use
- M580 systems are used in industrial control architectures with local or remote I/O, Ethernet communications and, depending on CPU and system design, redundant or safety functions.
- Diagnostic identifiers
- CPU/module LEDs, Control Expert diagnostic buffer and module diagnostics, system bits/words, application alarms
- Important
- CPU status, module channel errors, communication status, system words, function-block errors and application alarms are separate contexts.
Modicon M262
- Role
- Modicon M262 is Schneider Electric's logic/motion controller family for performance machines.
- Typical use
- M262 controllers coordinate machine logic, I/O, networks and—on suitable variants—motion axes.
- Diagnostic identifiers
- Controller LEDs, Machine Expert online/device diagnostics, web pages and PLC system structures
- Important
- M580 is engineered with Control Expert; M262 uses Machine Expert and different system structures, firmware and device models.
Altivar Machine ATV320
- Role
- Altivar Machine ATV320 is Schneider Electric's variable-speed drive for asynchronous and synchronous motors in machine applications.
- Typical use
- ATV320 drives are used in simple and advanced machine applications to regulate motor speed and torque.
- Diagnostic identifiers
- HMI code/label, error history, parameters, motor/drive data and operating state
- Important
- Interpret the complete diagnostic message using the exact device, installed configuration and current manufacturer documentation.
How to diagnose Schneider Electric devices
Use the complete diagnostic identifier together with the exact device, configuration and manufacturer documentation. The number or display label alone does not establish the cause.
- 01Identify the device
What to check: Exact product, hardware variant, options and firmware.
Why it matters: Diagnostic meanings depend on the installed configuration.
- 02Capture the identifier
What to check: Complete code, full message, timestamp and operating state.
Why it matters: A short code can omit the context needed to interpret an event.
- 03Identify the source
What to check: Controller, module, drive, amplifier, application or connected system.
Why it matters: Similar identifiers can come from different diagnostic systems.
- 04Read detailed diagnostics
What to check: Device log, engineering software, display and event history.
Why it matters: Detailed records identify the affected component and event sequence.
- 05Match the correct manual
What to check: Documentation for the exact family, hardware and software version.
Why it matters: This avoids using the meaning from a different product or release.

What is the difference between Modicon M580 and M262?
M580 is an Ethernet PAC family for larger process, high-availability and safety architectures and is engineered with Control Expert. M262 is a logic/motion controller for performance machines and is engineered with Machine Expert.
Do M580 and M262 use the same fault codes?
No. Their engineering systems, hardware models, system structures and firmware differ. Always preserve the complete diagnostic message and exact controller reference.
What does ATV320 OCF mean?
OCF means Overcurrent. The manual lists parameter issues, high inertia/load and mechanical locking among probable causes, so captured context is needed before a remedy is chosen.
Can an ATV320 detected error be reset immediately?
Not safely by assumption. NVE41295 distinguishes different clearing behaviors, and a reset does not remove the cause or guarantee a safe restart. Preserve the event and follow the machine procedure.
Do these codes apply to ATV340 or ATV600 drives?
No automatic equivalence is claimed. The codes on this page are verified only for ATV320 against NVE41295.06.
